Water Heater Replacement in Singapore

No hot water, a leaking tank, or a heater tripping the power: repair or replace.

Plumbline passes water heater requests to plumbers across Singapore. Water heaters fail in a few familiar ways: no hot water, a leaking storage tank, rusty water, or a heater that trips the RCCB. The fix might be a part, or it might be a new heater, and the price gap between the two is large.

What the plumber does first

The plumber identifies the heater type (storage tank or instant) and the fault. A leaking storage tank is usually replaced rather than repaired. A heater that trips the power has an electrical fault, which is a job for an electrician: wiring work requires an EMA-licensed electrical worker.

Storage or instant?

  • Storage heaters keep a tank of hot water ready. They suit bathrooms with rain showers and homes where several people shower in a row. They take up space and lose some heat standing.
  • Instant heaters heat water as it flows. They are compact and cheaper to buy, and suit single bathrooms with a normal shower.

PUB lists the pipe between a stop valve and an instantaneous water heater among the simple works a handyman may do (PUB). Other water service work is regulated and needs a PUB Licensed Plumber.

Get the price in writing first

Water heater jobs are where homeowners most often hear a figure they did not expect. Ask for the price of the heater and the labour separately, check the heater's model and its online price, and agree the total in writing before any work starts.
